Pushkar Travel Guide

Pushkar Lake

This holy lake was formed due to a lotus falling off from the hand of Lord Brahma. It is believed that water of this lake contains curative and medicinal powers. All the people coming here take a holy dip to wash off their sins. There are many Ghats encircling this consecrated lake.

Brahma Temple

The lone temple in India wherein Lord Brahma (creator of the world) is worshipped. It is believed to be built in the 14th century and has a majestic four-headed image of Lord Brahma.

Pushkar Fair

During the month of October and November, Pushkar Camel Fair starts. This week long fair is packed with some exciting activities like camel race, moustache competition, bridal competitions, puppet shows, soulful ballads, Rajasthani dances, bonfire activities, tribal folk dance and much more. In this fair, camels are paraded, raced, beautified, sold and bought.

Ranthambore Fort

Laxman Jhula

It is a suspension bridge and also known as Lakshamana Jhula. This bridge was built in the year 1939, which replaced the hanging jute bridge. It is believed that Lakshman used the jute bridge at the same site to cross the Ganga River.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and lies amidst the valleys of Vishnukoot, Brahmakoot and Manikoot. It is situated at the confluence of the rivers Madhumati and Pankaja. This temple is encircled by mountain ranges of Nar-Narayan and dense forests.

Triveni Ghat

This Gat is located at the confluence of three sacred rivers i.e. Saraswati, Yamuna and Ganga. In the evening, Aarti is performed by glowing diyas, beating drums, and chanting bhajans. Different types of ceremonies like “Pindha Shraddha” are also performed in the name of the ancestors.

Jagdish Temple

A big Hindu temple built in 1651 by Maharana Jagat Singh and features an Indo-Aryan style of architecture.  This three- storied temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and comprised of lush halls, painted walls, decorated ceilings and wonderfully carved pillars. It is located in the heart of Udaipur city and has a black stone image of Lord Vishnu.

City Palace

It is one of the most famous architectural wonders of Udaipur, which overlooks the Lake Pichola. It was constructed over a period of 400 years by several kings, starting by the Maharana Udai Singh. This palace features Mughal & Rajasthani style of architecture and comprised of hanging gardens, corridors, terraces, pavilions and courtyards. Saheliyon-Ki-Bari

It is a famous garden in Udaipur that has marble elephants, a lotus pool, kiosks and fountains. This garden is also called as “Courtyard of the Maidens” and was built by Maharana Sangram Singh in the 18th century for a group of 48 maids who accompanied the queen in her marriage.

Fateh Sagar Lake

This is an artificial lake in Udaipur that was built in 1678 by Maharana Jai Singh. This pear-shaped lake is a perfect spot to enjoy boating and encircled by Aravalli hills from three sides. This lake also has three small lakes, which can be reached by a boat ride.

Kashi Vishwanath Temple – This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the idol is one of the 12 jyotirlingas in India. It was re-built many times and the present one was constructed by Rani Ahalyabai Holkar in the 18th century.

Dasaswamedh Ghat – It is one of the most famous and oldest Ghats of Varanasi wherein Lord Brahma scarified ten horses to allow Lord Shiva come out of banishment. It was first renovated in 1740 by Bajirao Peshva and later by queen of Indore – Ahalyabai Holkar in 1774.

Amber Fort (Amer Fort)

Situated 11 km away from Jaipur, this fort was constructed in 16th century by Raja Man Singh over a hilltop and overlooks Maota Lake. Built of marble and red sandstone, this opulent fort has many highlights like Sukh Niwas, Jai Mandir, Sheesh Mahal (mirror palace), Diwan-e-Khas and many others. Jal Mahal (Water Palace)

Situated in the middle of Man Sagar Lake, this palace was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the 18th century with Mughal-Rajputana style of architecture. This five-storied palace is made of red sandstone and four floors remain under the water with visibility of only fifth floor.

Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds)

This palace was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799 and boasts a bee-hive structure with more than 953 windows. The architectural and cultural heritage of this palace reflects a wonderful fusion of Mughal and Rajput architecture.

City Palace

Initially the construction of this fort was started by Sawai Jai Singh II between 1729 and 1732. This palace complex is a remarkable blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture. The most visited and most prominent structures in this palace are the City Palace Museum, Shri Govind Dev Temple, Maharani’s Palace, Mukut Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and the Chandra Mahal.

Albert Hall Museum

Located amidst the Ram Niwas Garden, this is the oldest museum in Jaipur and was opened for the public in 1868. It houses more than 19000 historic artifacts like marble statues, musical instruments, miniature paintings, tribal costumes, ceramics, sculptures, textiles, jewelry, ivory work, clay models and much more.
